ABOUT ZAKA FEST

Zakafest is a free, annual musical arts festival, presented by Fondasyon Zaka. Named after the patron spirit of farmers, "Zaka", this festival is an amalgamation of all forms of Haitian roots, culture and folklore. The afternoon long celebration features musical performances, educational workshops and youth activities. Attendees will also be able to enjoy food and traditional handmade, artistic craft vendors. 

 

Fondasyon Zaka's mission is to promote Haitian culture to Haitians and non-Haitians by providing interactive educational activities. We strive to connect people to Haitian folk culture via music, art, and dance.

Fondasyon Zaka's vision is to become an organization in the South Florida community, that educates the community about Haitian Folk culture, providing them with exposure to Haitian educational activities, positive role models and a productive environment.

Pitha Dred Bio

 

Richard Pierre- Louis (A.K.A Pitha Dred) is one of the most influential Haitian cultural activists in Miami. A former professional soccer player, he has been an award-winning coach at the North Miami Senior High School and secured them with 3 championships where he also pioneered the 21st Century after school program. Pierre-Louis has partnered with numerous arts and education organizations such as the Miami Light Project, Rhythm Foundation, History Miami, Little Haiti Cultural Center, just to name these few and is passionately dedicated to nurturing the youth's positive reinforcements through cultural identity. He is the production manager for Mizikpam.com- Haitian Online Radio and is the founder of Fondasyon Zaka which leads Haitian Cultural Month with Zakafest among other programs dedicated to the essence of Afro-Caribbean roots.
